Rock music is a popular genre of music that was developed during and after the 1960s. It had roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, and was heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Below I have collect a series of music videos I believe will influence me, during the creation of my music video, but also has influenced my artist. So with this extra research into the codes and conventions, will also enable me to gain a better understanding of the genre. However another benefit of this is also I can uses this research as basis so I can uses some intertexuality to reference the influential videos.
The above video was directed by David Grohl, the lead singer and guitarist of Foo Fighters. This video shows all the codes and conventions of a rock genre video. Including a performance at the end. However it is not taken so seriously, focusing on the 'stuff you' attitude that rockstars have towards society. A similar concept I am going to be trying to achieve in this music video. It also illustrate the image of learning to walk in society which is being used to driving. The narrative of the music video, doesn't illustrate the lyrics but it emphasis it creating a new meaning in the visuals. Voyeurism is not really used in this music video, but in the context of the notation of looking, it is like we are following him as he is walking.
This band is huge influence on my artist, and I have considered using some of the editing as intertextual reference in my music video. This was one of the music videos that kick started the music video industry, through its used of editing, and visuals techniques which emphasis they lyrics. It also contains a live performance which was traditional at the era.
The notion of looking as if we are following his journey to get to the performance, connotations to living life on the edge and never backing down from a challenge, which the visuals are trying to emphasis. Again there is a major influence of Live performance. There is also a focus on close ups of the lead.
This video goes against the visuals and lyrics. Intertexuality of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde. There is also intertexuality of the steam punk genre. There is a live performance, with close ups of the lead. A huge emphasis on the notation of looking, as if we the audience are given a privilege knowing how things took place with this murder and are smart as we know what is unfolding,
